Self-Retracting Ratchet Strap

The Easooty self-retracting ratchet strap stores its unused webbing inside the ratchet housing rather than leaving it trailing. Pull the strap out to the length you need, ratchet it tight, and the remainder winds back into the body. Manufactured by Ningbo Yishu Trading Co., Ltd. in Ningbo, China, it is used to secure loads in pickup and truck beds, on trailers, in vans and on boats, where loose webbing is a hazard on the road. Available in 25 mm, 38 mm and 50 mm webbing, in black, orange and green, with vinyl-coated or plain hooks, as OEM and ODM.

  • Unused webbing retracts into the housing — nothing trails on the road
  • Breaking strength up to 1,500 kgf depending on webbing width
  • Vinyl-coated S-hooks available — no scratching of painted or chromed surfaces
  • Open-then-lock mechanism: pull webbing out, ratchet down to tension
  • Injection-moulded housing in orange, black or green
  • OEM and ODM: custom webbing colour, hooks and private-label packaging

Samples ship in 2 business days for stock configurations; a custom webbing colour takes 7–10 days.

About this product

What a self-retracting ratchet strap is

A conventional ratchet strap is an open loop. You pull webbing out of the ratchet housing, tighten it, and whatever you did not use is left hanging from the vehicle. That tail is a real problem: it can be run over, it can snag on a tailgate or a tail-lift, it flutters into the mirror of the vehicle behind you, and it has to be re-tensioned after every stop once it has worked loose. The self-retracting design removes that tail. The webbing runs into the housing rather than out of it, and the unused length is wound back inside where it is protected and invisible.

How the open-then-lock mechanism works

Pull the webbing out of the housing and it runs freely — the ratchet mechanism is disengaged while the strap is being drawn out. Feed the strap around the load, bring the hook to the anchor point, and now operate the handle. The handle lifts the ratchet pawl and the strap draws in. Reverse the handle stroke and the pawl drops into the next tooth, locking the webbing at that tension. You release the handle and it stays locked; you lift it again and it releases. Nothing needs to be re-tensioned after the first pass, because there is no loose loop left to work loose.

Why vinyl-coated hooks matter

A bare galvanised hook will mark a painted alloy wheel, scratch a chromed bumper or leave a rust mark on a polished surface the first time it is used. The vinyl coating is a soft sleeve over the hook body: it does not change the hook's working load, but it does mean the strap can be lashed directly to painted or polished surfaces without protection. It also slows salt and grit ingress at the hook throat. For marine work, coastal haulage and anything stored outside between uses, specify the vinyl-coated hook — it is the difference between a strap that protects the vehicle and one that marks it.

Materials and grades

The webbing is woven high-tenacity polyester. Polyester holds its strength better than polypropylene in sunlight, absorbs less water, and shrinks less under tension — all three matter for a strap that lives on a truck. Around 500 kgf breaking strength comes from 25 mm webbing, 1,000 kgf from 38 mm and 1,500 kgf from 50 mm, so the width is the lever you pull when the load goes up. Every production batch is pull-tested to its rated specification before it is packed, and the report travels with the shipment against the batch code printed on the carton. Hardware is forged steel for the handle and gears, with zinc-plated hooks; the hook is the part that is salt-spray tested at 72 hours.

Choosing the right length

Length is measured from the housing, along the webbing, around whatever the strap encircles, and back. The working figure is not the total length but the span — the distance between your two anchor points minus what the strap loses turning around the load. A strap that has to cross a load and come back needs roughly twice the width of the load in length before you account for the turn. Order the next standard length up rather than trying to make a short strap reach; a strap under tension has to be able to lie flat across the load to develop its rated capacity. If your anchor geometry is unusual, send us the dimensions and we will tell you which length to order.

OEM and ODM customisation

This is the series most of our private-label customers start with, because the housing is injection moulded here and the mould can be adjusted for your webbing width and colour. In practice that means your webbing colour and weave, your hook type including vinyl coating, your hang tag and polybag artwork, and your carton markings. Send us a competitor sample and a target price and we will tell you honestly whether we can hit it — and if the price only works with a different hardware grade, we will say so rather than quietly change the part.

Where it is used

  • Self-retracting ratchet strap hooked to a pickup bed rail, holding a soft bag in place

    Pickup and truck beds

Furniture, appliances and building materials in a pickup bed. Because the strap retracts, the load stays secure through multiple stops without re-tensioning.

  • Self-retracting ratchet strap tensioned over a covered load in a truck bed

    Truck and van cargo

Full loads on truck beds and van floors, where a trailing tail is a hazard and a thief’s helper. The unused webbing stays inside the housing, so the strap is exactly as long as you set it.

  • Self-retracting ratchet strap clipped to a boat deck rail

    Boats and marine decks

Marine use should specify the vinyl-coated hook. The soft sleeve protects gelcoat and polished fittings, and the 72-hour salt-spray test covers the hardware.

  • Two self-retracting ratchet straps fastening soft bags to a truck bed cargo net

    Off-road and overlanding

Soft bags, recovery kit and camping gear on a cargo net. Two straps of different lengths stay in the same system, and neither of them leaves a tail across the deck.

Frequently asked questions

  • How much load can one strap carry?
The safe working load is one third of the rated breaking strength, which is the usual convention for webbing lashings: 25 mm webbing gives roughly 165 kgf SWL, 38 mm roughly 330 kgf and 50 mm roughly 500 kgf. Note that lashing over the centre of a load roughly doubles the restraint force at the anchor, so a working load that looks comfortable on paper can be much less comfortable in use. If you tell us your load and how you intend to lash it, we will do the calculation with you.
  • Does the webbing really retract, or does it just sit in the housing?
It retracts. The design stores webbing inside the housing, so pulling out more strap reduces what remains stored. Once you release the handle, the unused length winds back in. This is the whole point of the series and the reason to choose it over a conventional ratchet strap.
  • Can I use these outdoors or in salt water?
Yes, with the vinyl-coated hook. The polyester webbing is UV stable and does not absorb water appreciably. The hardware is the limiting factor in a corrosive environment, so specify the vinyl-coated hook and ask us for the 72-hour salt-spray report for your batch. Rinse hardware with fresh water after marine use and dry it before storage.
  • What is your MOQ and lead time?
MOQ is 500 pieces per series and colour for standard configurations. Samples of stock items ship in 2 business days; bulk orders take 15–20 days after artwork approval. A custom moulding colour adds about 10 days because the colour has to be run and approved before the order is produced.
  • Can you produce these under our own brand?
Yes. The housing is moulded in our own factory, so we can adjust the mould for your webbing width and colour. OEM and ODM cover webbing colour and width, vinyl-coated or plain hooks, hang tags, printed polybags and your own carton markings. Send a sample and a target price and we will tell you honestly whether we can hit it.
  • Will the breaking strength on the carton be accurate?
Each carton carries a batch code that links it to the raw material lot, the moulding run and the pull-test report for that batch. The stated rating is the rated specification for the series and webbing width; the per-batch test result is in the report that ships with the goods. Ask us for the report before you place a repeat order and we will send it.
